Jewel Randolph
DVM
Primary Location: Salinas
Intern
Jewel Randolph grew up in the small town of Mount Pleasant Mills, Pennsylvania. At 5 years old, Jewel already knew she wanted to be a veterinarian and has not seriously considered pursuing anything else since. Jewel started riding at age 10, mostly a mix of Western disciplines, riding barrels and poles. She “even tried a little jumping here and there,” which she says she would love to get into again.
Jewel attended the University of Findlay in Ohio, earning a BS in Animal Science with minors in both Chemistry and Biology. During college, she rode on the IHSA Western Pleasure team. She received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California.
Prior to vet school, Jewel always wanted to practice mixed animal medicine, but over the past few years has found that she truly enjoys working with large animals. While she continues to explore specialties including Lameness, Internal Medicine, and Reproductive Medicine, Dr. Randolph’s main interest is currently Ambulatory Medicine. She would love to eventually return home to Pennsylvania to practice Large Animal Ambulatory Medicine with an Equine focus.
Jewel says, “What started out as a love and understanding for animals gradually expanded into a fascination and appreciation for the practice of veterinary medicine. We do our best to make a difference in the lives of these animals and improve their quality of life, but it’s also so special to be able to build close relationships with the clients and owners; it’s amazing the impact you can have on others’ lives through this profession.”
Busy with her education and traveling across the country, Jewel has not had much time to spare, so she currently does not own a horse or any other pets, but is keeping her “cup full” with all the animals at the clinic… and she hopes to perhaps adopt some of her own once she gets settled somewhere more permanently. When not working, Jewel enjoys doing just about anything outdoors: horseback riding, kayaking, camping, hiking, and exploring new places. But she also appreciates spending quality time with friends and family, and loves a good tv show binge, as well as making all kinds of baked goods, when time allows.
